Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a doctor’s referral?

    • You do not require a referral from your doctor to receive psychotherapy services from me. However, some insurance providers require clients to obtain and submit a doctor's referral with their claim. Check with your insurance provider for clarification of what is required in the claim process with them.

  • How much does psychotherapy cost?

    • Psychotherapy costs range from one mental health practitioner to another. Registered Psychotherapists tend to have lower rates than Registered Psychologists. My fee is $160 per 50-minute session, which is comparable to other Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying) in the Ottawa area.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

    • I accept e-transfers, as well as debit and credit card transactions through OWL Practice, which is the platform I use that handles all of my billing, invoicing, and scheduling.

  • Are your services covered by OHIP or other insurance?

    • Psychotherapy is not currently covered by OHIP, unless provided by a medical doctor. However, it is usually covered by private health insurance providers. Check with your insurance provider for clarification of what is required in the claim process with them.

  • Do you offer direct billing?

    • No, I do not provide direct billing with any private insurance companies. Clients can pay the fee for their therapy to me and then submit a claim to their insurance companies for reimbursement.

  • What type of clients do you work with?

    • I strive to provide psychotherapy on an individual basis (i.e. one-on-one) with adult clients (age eighteen and above) who are experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, grief, anger, trauma, low self-esteem, and other issues. Eventually, I aim to also provide psychotherapy to adult couples, and families with adult children in the future. Please check back later for updates.

  • How long does therapy take?

    • Unfortunately, there really isn’t a definitive answer to this question. The fact is, psychotherapy is not a “cure-all” – it is a healing process that can take an indefinite period of time. For some people, a few weekly meetings for a few months are all they need to quickly get back on track with their lives. For others, they have more serious issues that need to be addressed, which may take several months or years of weekly meetings. Some clients may even feel it necessary to have psychotherapy throughout their entire lives. Once you’ve communicated to me what your goals are for your therapy in our first session, I will begin to develop and suggest a treatment plan that is suitable to your needs. I will check-in with you regularly to see how you’re feeling about your progress, and present alternative treatment options as needed throughout our work together.

  • How do I get started with therapy?

    • If you’d like to get started, click the "Book an Appointment" tab at the top of the page, and follow the instructions on that page (scroll down). You can also call my office at 343-291-1137, or email me at gstone@glowingheartsandminds.com

  • Is therapy confidential?

    • Yes, psychotherapy is confidential. Your privacy is absolutely of the utmost importance to me, as all mental health practitioners are required by law to keep their client’s disclosed information in confidence. However, there are limits to confidentiality which all mental health practitioners are bound to by law. We will discuss these limits to confidentiality in our first session when we go over the informed consent form that you will be provided with.

  • Do you have a privacy policy?

    • Yes. You will be provided with a copy of this policy in our first session together, along with a copy of the informed consent form.

  • Are you licensed?

    • Yes. I am a Qualifying member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

  • Do you provide therapy over the phone or internet?

    • Yes, I provide therapy over the phone, as well as virtual therapy over a secured video conferencing platform through OWL Practice. The fees for these means of providing therapy are the same as my in-person psychotherapy fees - $160 for each 50-minute session.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    • The cancellation policy at Glowing Hearts & Minds is that any cancellation made within 48 hours of the client’s appointment time will incur a $50 cancellation fee. If the client fails to show up for their appointment without cancelling, the full session fee will be charged to their credit card on file. Cancellations made outside of the 48-hour window will not incur a cancellation fee. Please note that most insurance companies will not cover the cost of a missed appointment. Credit card information will be retained on file for the purposes of billing for late-cancellation fees and no-show fees.
